SFPD Works To Control Protests

Sponsored by:

San Francisco police say they´re moving much more aggressively today to control the crowds that are swarming city streets to protest military action in Iraq. They´re also preventing demonstrators from blocking traffic, and breaking into smaller groups.

Police have arrested at least 150 protesters today, on top of the 1,400 arrested yesterday. Police say the arrest total for yesterday was an all-time record for the city.

Demonstrators say they plan to continue with protests through this evening.

At different times today, protesters gathered in large groups at Market and Montgomery, at the Embarcadero and outside the offices of Bechtel, a military contractor. And they´re planning another major rally at the Civic Center, set for noon tomorrow.
