Sierra Club Has New President

Sponsored by:

A San Francisco activist has been elected president of the Sierra Club, the nation´s oldest environmental group.

Larry Fahn has been a member of the San Francisco chapter for more than three decades. He´s well known for suing under the state´s anti-toxics law and persuading stockholders to pressure companies to be more environmentally accountable.

The 49-year-old Fahn says environmentalists are facing the most hostile government in the nation´s history. He promised yesterday to fight what he called the Bush administration´s efforts to weaken four decades of environmental progress. The 700,000 member Sierra Club was founded in 1892 by naturalist John Muir. Fahn is the group´s 50th president.
