By-Pass Traffic Still A Few Days Away

Sponsored by:

The grand opening of the new East Sonora is set for 10 a.m. Thursday, but the roadway will not be open to vehicle traffic until sometime next week. That according to Caltrans spokesman Robert Spradling.

He says some final work still needs to be completed. “Because of signalization coordination for the different lights, and signs that need to be finalized for motorist safety, we won´t be able to open it at the official ribbon cutting.”

Spradling says the new section of the Highway 108 by-pass, that runs from Mono Way to Peaceful Oak Road near Standard, will open next week, although as of Wednesday morning, he did not have the exact day and time.

Tomorrow morning´s ceremonies high atop the Sullivan Creek Bridge will feature a ribbon cutting and speeches by dignitaries, including representatives from Caltrans, Tuolumne County and the California Transportation Commission.

The ceremonies will be broadcast live on AM 1450 KVML radio beginning at 10 a.m.
