Ivan To Blame For Higher Gas Prices

Sponsored by:

A new survey of gas stations shows the price of gas jumped more than five cents a gallon in the past two weeks.

For September 10 through Friday, the combined national average for all grades of gas hit $1.94 a gallon, up about five cents from the previous two weeks.

Trilby Lundberg publishes the semimonthly Lundberg Survey of some 6,000 gas stations across the United States. She says the uptick in prices is mostly because of problems related to Hurricane Ivan.

The storm damaged petroleum facilities in the Gulf of Mexico. Other oil installations shut down for fear of damage. And there were delays of shipments of oil and refined products.

The average national price for self-serve regular — the biggest seller — reached $1.91. The mid-grade average was $2.01. Premium was pegged at $2.10.
