New Laws, Officials Start Saturday

Sponsored by:

This Friday is New Year´s Eve, and Saturday begins a new year: 2005.

That means celebration, but it also means new laws go into effect in the state of California. Young children won´t be able to go into a tanning booth without a doctor´s approval, you´ll be able to sue over annoying e-mail spam and there will be stronger protections for Social Security numbers too.

Those are just three of hundreds of new laws that will take effect on New Year´s Day.

Also this year, some political and governmental changes for the Mother Lode.

Tuolumne County Supervisor Larry Rotelli had his last Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, after serving 20 years on the County Board. He was on the Sonora City Council for 14 years before that.

And Calaveras County Supervisor Lucy Thein is stepping down after 8 years of service on the Calaveras County Board.

Now, City Councilwoman and former Sonora Mayor Liz Bass will be stepping in as Tuolumne County Supervisor for District One.

Calaveras County Board Newcomer Bill Claudino will be sworn in on January 4th.
