Suspect Arrested, Gun Recovered After San Andreas Police Chase

Sponsored by:

A police chase which began on Highway 49 in San Andreas last night ended with a foot chase and a recovered stolen gun. 26-year-old Gabriel Becerra was originally spotted driving 35 miles per hour in a 55 zone, and after CHP officers attempted to stop the 1989 Toyota, he sped up and led them on a chase from Highway 49 to Highway 12. The suspect allegedly ran a stop sign, almost hitting another car, and finally lost control as his car hit a power pole and ran into a barbed wire fence.

A brief foot chase followed, during which the suspect allegedly threw a loaded 9 millimeter handgun into the nearby weeds. The gun was later found to have been stolen out of Stockton.

Becerra was arrested for Felony Evading Arrest, possession of a stolen handgun, and numerous warrants. His 14-year-old passenger was taken into custody and released to her parents.

The entire chase went for 5 miles and lasted about 10 minutes.
