Lawmakers Want Tahoe To Get Fed Dollars First

Sponsored by:

Two California lawmakers say Lake Tahoe should be one of the first places in the country to receive money from increased federal allocations to thin overgrown forests.

California state Assemblyman Tim Leslie says Tahoe is the most important area of those under consideration for the funds.

The Tahoe City Republican and Democrat U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein will host a conference Saturday at South Lake Tahoe to discuss how to increase forest thinning there.

The Bush administration hopes to spend about $680 million this year to thin 3.7 million acres of public land deemed particularly vulnerable to wildfire.
