Summer Drawing Classes Offered at Columbia College

Sponsored by:

Instructor Cord Rawlinson will teach two class titled “Botanical Illustration” and “Beginning Drawing” at 1:00 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively on eight consecutive Saturdays, starting May 8.

Botanical illustration is a specialized field of art that combines scientific accuracy with the use of artistic effects. The course emphasis will be on observation, form, volume, shape, line and structure. A variety of approaches and different art media will be used. The class will meet in the Willow Building and in outdoor locations around the college campus.

Students in beginning drawing will explore fundamental skills, such as observation, line quality, structure, form, volume, light and shadow. Weight and balance will be taught through specific exercises that are designed to increase awareness of the three dimensional world and how it projects onto a two dimensional sheet of paper. This dynamic course will be structured to provide instruction in drawing for each student´s individual interest.

Registration fee is $55 per student for each class and materials can be purchased at the Columbia College Manzanita Bookstore for approximately $25. For more course information or to register, call the Community Education office at 588-5144.
