Voters May Be Asked To Fund More For Prisons

California voters may be asked in November to approve more school and rehabilitation for state prisoners.
That´s if a proposed constitutional amendment passed by the state Senate today is also approved by the Assembly. The amendment aims to improve one of the nation´s worst records in integrating inmates back into society.
State corrections officials say only one in five of California´s ex-convicts successfully completes parole after release – and that 70,000 return to prison every year, usually for minor offenses.
The amendment would make prison officials analyze each inmate and craft a rehabilitation program that includes more school.
