Levee Repairs Could Take Months

Sponsored by:

Repairs to the Jones Tract Levee could go into the winter, according to an attorney for an area reclamation district.

The Stockton Record reports water officials will meet today to discuss how and when to start pumping water back out of the flooded area.

However, no pumping can take place until the hole in the levee is fixed, probably sometime in July.

60-thousand tons of rock have already been dumped into the break, but an additional 180-thousand tons of rock will be needed to complete the task.

New estimates say repairs will cost almost 94-million dollars, and that money will come from the federal and state governments, as well as the reclamation districts themselves.

It´s hoped federal officials will declare the spot a major disaster area, as that would increase the amount of money available for the repairs.
