Calaveras Board Supports Copper Mill

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — Although no formal vote has been taken, the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors says that the proposed Copper Mill project in Copperopolis is a good thing for the county.

Copper Mill would be a 27-acre pedestrian friendly boutique town center at Little John Road and Highway 4.

The board held a public hearing on the project Monday but ultimately continued any decision to next week.

Five out of the six speakers during the hearing were project proponents. The lone opponent, John Buckley of the Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center, says the project is growth inducing and does not address cumulative impacts.

Regardless, all but one absent supervisor, said they thought it was a good project. Supervisor Tom Tryon in particular said Copper Mill is a model for growth in the county.

If approved, Copper Mill would cost $55 million and take three years to build.
