Tuolumne County Sheriff Announces Retirement

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The office of Tuolumne County Sheriff will be up for grabs when the current term is up.

Sheriff Dick Rogers informed the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors of his intent to retire at today´s board meeting.

In a letter submitted to the board, Rogers says he will not be seeking re-election at the conclusion of his present term. Rogers also told the panel that he considers himself fortunate for having had a great career working with he calls many exceptionally talented people.

Rogers said he has reached the maximum retirement percentage in the Public Employee Retirement System and has earned a pension that will enable him to enjoy retirement.

He added that his wife Jeanette retired last year and the two are “really looking forward to doing things together” that they don´t have time to do with Rogers serving as Sheriff.

Rogers says he will continue to perform his duties as Sheriff until the end of his term. Priorities Rogers says he will pursue over the next year are to increase staffing levels at the Sheriff´s Department and to assist in making the transfer of office to the newly elected Sheriff as smooth as possible.

Rogers´ term will expire in January of 2007.
