Veterans Day Plans Set

Sponsored by:

Calaveras County, CA — Operation Military Support is using Veterans Day as a fundraiser by hosting two dinners this weekend.

Formed in 2002 to send care packages to soldiers in Iraq, the group now operates from an itemized wish list from troops. Objects range from stuffed toys to give to Iraqi children to more personal items for themselves such as trail mix, hand sanitizer and sour candy.

Operation Military Support sends 25 to 50 boxes overseas every week. And not just to Iraq, but also to Afghanistan, Korea and wherever else the United States has troops.

Friday night a dinner will be held at the Sequoia Woods Country Club in Arnold. Cocktails will be served at 5:30 p.m. with a prime rib and stuffed chicken dinner being served at 6 p.m. For reservations call 728-2000. The guest speaker will be Navy Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman Miguel Delgado Jr. who was instrumental in helping Operation Military Support connect up with troops during the first wave of the war.

On Sunday night the Senior Center in San Andreas will open up for a 4 o´clock prime rib dinner. For reservations call 293-4223.

Tickets are $75, $60 of which goes back into the care package program.
