Price Squeeze Hits Olives

Sponsored by:

California olive growers are coping with lower prices and higher production costs.

Canneries are offering prices about 10 percent lower than last year´s, even though olive production is expected to be lighter. Growers say prices are being driven lower by imported olives. Farmers in regions infested with the olive fruit fly face higher production costs, because they must spend as much as $100 dollars an acre to combat the pest.
