Lawsuits on Sierra Forest Plans to Proceed

Lawsuits challenging management plans for more than 11 million acres of Sierra Nevada national forests are set to proceed.
Agriculture Undersecretary Mark Rey yesterday affirmed the plan that will govern eleven national forests. The decision completes the government´s administrative
review, meaning lawsuits by California´s attorney general, environmental groups and the California Forestry Association can proceed.
Lockyer and the environmental groups say the plan boosts commercial logging under the guise of increasing fire protection. The forestry association says the plan should have included asustainable timber supply as one of its goals.
