Possible Changes To Cell Tower Ordinance Discussed

Sponsored by:

The cell tower ordinance, which has been in place for over 2 years, has been a hot topic of discussion among the community and the Board of Supervisors.

The Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce made a presentation at the latest Board meeting pointing out that the current ordinance is making it very difficult for cell phone companies to do business.

George Segarini, President/CEO of the Chamber, believes that it is also a safety issue.

CHP Commander Mike Ayala added that it is all about Safety, Service, and Security, which he says directly relates to people making calls to help others in an emergency.

Some residents who oppose the change in the ordinance argue that the County reviewed ample information before making the decision.

Others have said that the cell towers are an eye sore and will deter tourism.

The Supervisors heard many people speak advocating the change and they also heard several who are against it. No formal decision has been reached as yet.
