100th Anniversary Celebration Of CDF Kicks Off Wildfire Awareness Week

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — As fire season approaches, Calaveras and Tuolumne County are participating locally in California´s Wildfire Awareness Week; which starts on Monday.

Although county fire crews responded to fewer fires than normal, Calaveras was the site of the Pattison Complex fire which scorched almost 27 hundred acres and destroyed 13 homes.

CDF Battalion Chief Richard Imlach says that because of the number of devastating fires in Calaveras, their residents will likely be more sensitive to the new laws and regulations, including the jump from a 30-foot clearance space to 100 feet.

Imlach believes that it is important for people to remember that the rules are in place for their protection and the CDF is always available to help and answer any questions regarding Fire Prevention.

He also mentioned that this is the 100th anniversary of the CDF and there is a celebration scheduled for Monday the 9th in Sacramento, where the Governor will give a speech to kick off Wildfire awareness Week.

Last year fire fighters from Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties responded to 380 fires, which burned almost 8 thousand acres, compared to a seasonal average of 480 fires.
