New Developments Previewed At Chamber Meeting

Valley Springs, CA — Several new developments were the talk of the town at the quarterly meeting of the Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce Thursday in Valley Springs.

Developers were invited to unveil their plans, some of which have not even been submitted to the county.

The meeting was held at the unnamed shopping center under construction at the corner of Highway 26 and Vista Del Lago Drive. Slated to occupy the spaces there are a Mongolian barbecue restaurant, a juice bar, coffee house, bank and possibly a sporting goods store.

The largest of the projects proposed for the area is Spring Valley, a 1,000 home mixed use development. Project architect Dave Tanner says plans will be submitted Monday.

Tanner says the project will create 1,100 new jobs for the area. Plans include a 150-room hotel.

Another development is looking at bringing a site for a Delta College campus.

Calaveras County Community Development Agency Director Stephanie Moreno was the guest speaker for the lunch and had a lot to say about community planning.

Moreno is in charge of a possible update to the general plan, which includes more specific community plans. She says the county is at a crossroads and that our sense of community must be preserved.
