Winds Playing Havoc With Clark Fork Fire

Sponsored by:

Clark Fork Campgrounds, CA — Winds are currently playing havoc with the 300 acre fire in the Clark Fork area near the Sand Flat campgrounds.

Stanislaus National Forest Spokesman Jerry Snyder reports that fixed wing aircraft are no longer fighting the human caused fire due to thermal updrafts. Helicopters are continuing to fight the blaze. The fire started at approximately 2:30pm Sunday.

At no time were evacuations ordered. While campgrounds were basically full Sunday evening they have emptied at this hour with campers heading home at the conclusion of the Labor Day weekend.

There have been no civilian injuries and only one minor injury to a firefighter who suffered a burned hand from falling rocks. There are no structures in the immediate area that could have been damaged by the fire.
