Tuolumne County Prescription Take-Back Day

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA– The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration, participated in the first ever Prescription Drug Take-Back Day yesterday in the Junction Shopping Center.

The goal of the nationwide campaign was to collect potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for disposal. The YES partnership, dedicated to preventing substance abuse and child abuse in Tuolumne County, was also on hand to help with the collection of unwanted drugs in the community.

YES Partnership Director Bob White said, “We’ve estimated that we’ve collected at least 250 pounds worth of prescription drugs. We have six boxes that are completely full and two other smaller boxes that are full.  It’s just a mix of everything, cough medicine, prescription drugs and over the counter medications that people are bringing in. Hopefully we’ll we able to do this again. We’ve had a great response.”

White added that the Sheriff’s department will be transferring the unwanted prescription drugs to the Sacramento DEA office for disposal.
