Meet Ashlynn Lafayette, the new Miss Tuolumne County.

Seventeen year old Lafayette was crowned as Miss Tuolumne County on Saturday August 13th. She was competing against three other ladies for the Title. Those ladies included Mariah Gonsalez, Alicia Magdaleno (Most Photogenic) and Haley Copello (Congenality Award).

Lafayette was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Lafayette is a seventh generation Tuolumne County resident and is just beginning her senior year at Sonora High School. Eventually Lafayette would like to enlist in the Army as a nurse.

According to Lafayette, the interview portion of the pagent was the most nerve-wracking and worth the most points. The competition also included evening wear and model wear. For the talent portion, Lafayette danced and lip-synced to the broadway jazz tune, “If My Friends Could See Me Now”.

For being crowned Miss Tuolumne County, Lafayette was awarded an $800 Scholarship, a $350 Dance Scholarship from ONSTAGE Dance Studio, a crown, sash and a large beautiful trophy.

The next public appearance for Miss Tuolumne County will likely be in Groveland during the ’49er Festival Parade and Chili Cookoff’ in September.

Other winners on Saturday night included Teen Miss Tuolumne County, Isabel Valadez. Junior Miss Tuolumne County, Shyanne Clopton. Little Miss Tuolumne County, Savanna Clopton. And Tiny Miss Tuolumne County, Cadence Barnum.

The KVML “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
