Tuolumne County Courthouse Funding In Legislative Budget
Sonora, CA — The California budget approved by the legislature yesterday, and headed to Governor Jerry Brown’s desk, includes the long awaited money to construct a new Tuolumne County Courthouse.
While the design work was completed with earlier revenue streams, actual construction was delayed due to a lack of state approved funding. The State of California is fully funding the $65-million project that will be situated at the law and justice center property off Old Wards Ferry Road. It will be in addition to the juvenile detention facility, Tuolumne County Transit hub, and currently under construction county jail.
Tuolumne County Administrator Craig Pedro says, “We fully anticipate the governor will sign the budget, and then hopefully that project can get rolling. Then people can anticipate it taking about two years to complete.”
It could start as early as late 2018.
Ongoing construction of the new jail is expected to be completed in late 2019. You can click on the slideshow to see some recent images from the site.
