Elementary School Placed On Lockdown Due To Nearby Hunter

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office reports that Curtis Creek Elementary School on Standard Road was placed on “lockdown status” for around 45 minutes this afternoon.

Sgt. Andrea Benson reports that it was due to a report of a “suspicious person on a nearby property adjacent to the school.” Deputies responded and located a man in a wooded area that was hunting turkeys. Sgt. Benson adds that the man was trespassing on Sierra Pacific Industries property, but the company did not want to press charges. It is legal to hunt in that area, but only if there is permission from the property owner.

The lockdown occurred after classes had dismissed for the day, but there were some students taking part in extra-curricular activities.
