Update: New Details On Inmate’s Capture
Update 3:50 p.m.: New details are being released by the California Department of Corrections regarding the apprehension of escaped inmate 22-year-old Taurus Hendricks.
Hendricks, a minimum-security inmate, went missing last night from the Vallecito Conservation Camp near Angels Camp. Lt. Brent Loop says, “We got calls from a couple of local citizens that they saw someone matching the description of our escaped inmate along Murphy’s Grade Road.”
When law enforcement responded to the area, Hendricks was still in his inmate uniform, jogging along the roadway near Murphys. Lt. Loops explains, “He [Hendricks] kind of went off the roadway into some brush and eventually they were able to apprehend him without a struggle.”
Hendricks has been taken to Calaveras County Jail for questioning. Hendricks was serving a four-year sentence for first-degree burglary and was scheduled to get out in August, according to Lt. Loop, who says, he will now face escape charges.
Hendricks left the camp after a guard discovered he had a cell phone on him last night and was facing disciplinary action, according to Lt. Loop.
Update 2:10 p.m.: Calaveras County Sheriff’s Officials report the escapee from the Vallecito Conservation Camp near Angels Camp has been found. 22 year old Taurus Hendricks, a minimum security inmate, went missing last night. Investigator have not released any further information on how or where Hendricks was found.
Original Post 8:48 a.m.: Angels Camp, CA — An inmate walked away from the Vallecito Conservation Camp near Angels Camp last night.
The California Department of Corrections reports that Taurus Hendricks, age 22, was a minimum security inmate. Inmates at the camp assist with firefighting during the summer months. Staff searched the inmate dormitory area, surrounding buildings, and the camp perimeter after he turned up missing.
Area law enforcement agencies are involved in the search efforts, including the CHP, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department, Angels Camp Police Department and the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office. Hendricks was last seen wearing blue prison clothing, a gray sweatshirt, and white tennis shoes. He was serving a four-year sentence for first degree burglary and previously resided in Sacramento County. He was scheduled for parole in three months. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact local law enforcement.
