Flynn, Wetzell lead No. 7 San Diego State past Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. — Malachi Flynn scored 20 points, Yanni Wetzell added 17 and No. 7 San Diego State remained undefeated with a 64-55 victory over Fresno State on Tuesday night.

The Aztecs (18-0, 7-0 Mountain West Conference) are one of two unbeaten teams left in Division 1, along with Auburn. They extended their nation-best win streak to 18 games, including a nation-best nine straight wins on the road.

Fresno State (5-12, 1-5) led 21-19 with 5:32 left in the first half, but went scoreless the rest of the half as the Aztecs built a 26-21 lead.

Flynn scored six of San Diego State’s first 11 points in the second half, building a 37-27 advantage. His steal and layup with 4:16 remaining in the game capped a 7-0 run in a 51-second span to give the Aztecs a decisive 54-41 lead.

Freshman forward Orlando Robinson led the Bulldogs with 18 points.

BIG PICTURE

San Diego State: The Aztecs led the entire second half, avoiding an upset loss to the seventh-place Bulldogs, who had won seven of the previous 10 games in the series, including four of the past five at the Save Mart Center. Fresno State: The Bulldogs dropped to 1-5 in conference play for the first time since the 2012-13 season. The Bulldogs welcomed junior starters Nate Grimes (wrist) and Noah Blackwell (knee) back to the lineup, with limited results. The juniors combined for six points in 49 minutes.
