The proposed one percent increase in the Tuolumne County sales tax rate, is actually a 13.8% increase in the amount of sales tax paid. The Supervisors should take a hard look at stopping the endless, growing red ink bleed at the juvenile detention center. That $16 million dollars from the state can surely be negotiated, perhaps paid back over time from the “savings” of not losing $1.5 million per year an amount sure to grow annually. Hopefully this has taught us that “There’s no such thing as free money” and will remember that when looking to build these new resiliency centers that are supposed to net $10,000 each per year. Since when does government ever show a profit on anything?
