Police investigating after student dies in school cart crash
ORANGE, Calif. — Police and school officials are investigating after a high school student with special needs died after crashing a security guard’s golf cart into a pillar at a Southern California campus.
Authorities say 15-year-old Emanuel Perez suffered major injuries in the crash Monday at El Modena High School in Orange. He died at a hospital.
KABC-TV reports dozens of students walked out of class Thursday to demand answers about their classmate’s death.
Officials haven’t released many details about the crash. The district says Perez was under supervision by an aide at the time of the incident, and that others tried to stop him when he got on the cart, which was reserved for staff.
