The Latest Shots fired at California senior complex

CASTAIC, Calif. — The Latest on a report of shots fired at a California senior housing complex (all times local):

6:50 p.m.

A neighbor says a woman who fired bullets through her door in a Los Angeles-area senior housing complex has schizophrenia but residents haven’t known her to be violent.

Sheriff’s Lt. Leo Bauer says the shots rang out Friday afternoon as deputies walked toward the Castaic Lake Senior Village in Castaic. They were there to check on the welfare of a woman who was reported as being “highly disturbed.”

Bauer says nobody was hit. Authorities surrounded the building and evacuated residents of some nearby units, including people in wheelchairs.

But neighbor Jill Webb tells KABC-TV that other residents remain holed up in their apartments. She says the woman is well-known to neighbors and has sometimes made paranoid remarks.

The station also showed the woman peeking out of her balcony door and smoking a cigarette.

It happened at about 4 p.m. Friday at the multi-story Castaic Lake Senior Village in Castaic, about 25 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
