Police locate California infant after 2 women fatally shot

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A 6-month-old boy was found more than six hours after the child was taken from a home where his mother and grandmother were shot to death, police said.

The baby was found unharmed around 3 p.m. Sunday after being taken from a San Diego home, The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

San Diego Police Department Capt. Manny Del Toro said the boy was found with a woman at an apartment complex.

Police Lt. Matt Dobbs said the shooting victims were the boy’s 37-year-old mother and his 65-year-old grandmother. Their names were not immediately released.

Police were searching for 31-year-old Justice Love Peace, the child’s father, who authorities called a person of interest in the case.

Police said they believe Peace left the scene with the boy in a white SUV after the shooting in the city’s Otay Mesa area.

A caller reported hearing gunshots around 8:20 a.m. and officers found the mother in the driveway. She was transported to a hospital, where she died.

Police located the grandmother near the front door, but the woman died before she could be taken to a hospital.
