Police: suspect shot after firing at officers in California

MONTCLAIR, Calif. (AP) — Police shot and wounded a homicide suspect who opened fire on officers as they tried to pull him over on a Southern California freeway on Monday, authorities said.

California Highway Patrol officers spotted the suspect around 3:30 p.m. on Interstate 10 east of Los Angeles and requested assistance from the Pomona Police Department, the Daily Bulletin reported.

When officers tried to pull the man over on an off-ramp in the city of Montclair, he got out of the car and shot at officers at least twice, according to Pomona police spokeswoman Aly Mejia.

Police fired back, striking the suspect at least once, Meia said. He was responsive as he was loaded into an ambulance, she said, and was hospitalized in unknown condition.

The man, who was not identified, was wanted in connection with a homicide in Fresno County, the Daily Bulletin said.

No officers were hurt.
