Dear Summerville Elementary Parents and Students,

School begins on Wednesday, August 19, 2020! Let’s get ready to learn! The start of school will be different and unique from any other year, but together we are going to continuing moving because “Together, we can make a difference!”

Classes and Class Assignments

Beginning Friday, August 14, Summerville Elementary teachers will be reaching out to each family via phone and email to inform your students who they will be learning with this year. When they reach out, expect to learn how to connect to class on the first day of school, and some brief notes regarding class expectations and beginning of the year set up. Your student’s teacher is excited to begin school with your student this year.

Back to School Preparations & Date

Technology

Our school will be using three core applications at all grade levels. We recommend downloading these apps ahead of time to help make the first day of school smoother:

Your student’s teacher will provide you with more information about each of these apps, and a few others during the first few days of school.

Note: Beginning Monday, August 17, 2020, we will begin transitioning our school communication to Remind. Look for more information about this service next week.

Note: WebEx (like Zoom, but much more secure) can handle phone calls. If your internet at home is too slow to connect, your student can connect to classroom web calls each day by making a phone call. Your student’s teacher will have more information for you about this.

Note: Begining Wednesday, August 19, wireless internet service will be available along Apple Colony Rd. Students with school-issued Chromebooks will be able to connect from the street. Personal devices can connect as well. Your student’s teacher will have more information about this next week. Additionally, Tuolumne Parks and Rec will be helping our school offering wireless internet for students in the town square park, Monday-Friday, during school hours. Your student’s teacher will have more information about this next week.

Classroom Textbooks, Books, and Other Materials

Next week, each grade-level will be passing out textbooks, books, and other classroom materials during various distributions windows. These windows will be unique to each grade-level to help stagger getting materials out across the week. Please see the DRAFT grade-level dates and times below. Please note, your student’s teacher will communicate the specific date and time for pick up. It is so important that you arrive promptly to get theses materials so we can start the school year strong together.

  • TK & Kindergarten: Tuesday, 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
  • 1st & 2nd Grade: Tuesday, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm & 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm
  • 3rd – 5th Grade: By Last Name, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
  • 6th – 8th Grade: By Last Name,Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Teachers will be communicating more specifics in their family communications in the next few days.

We realize there are many more questions about the beginning of the school year. Please take a look at our Beginning of School FAQ page for more information: https://bit.ly/SumElFAQCommunicator8-7-2020, and your student’s teacher will be able to answer much more for you in just a few days. We appreciate your connection, your support, and we know that “Together, we will make a difference!”

Though it’s different, we can’t wait to start the school year strong. Look for more information over the next few days.
