Trial Begins In Russian Murder Case

Los Angeles, CA — It´s been 4 years and the murder trial of 2 men accused of kidnapping 5 people and dumping their bodies into New Melones Reservoir is set to begin Tuesday in a Los Angeles Federal Court.

Court documents filed Monday say the government intends to prove that Iouri Mikhel and Jurijus Kadamovas targeted wealthy Russian immigrants living in Los Angeles who they could abduct and hold for ransom.

If convicted, the two could face the death penalty.

The trial will begin with about 250 jurors receiving questionnaires and filing them out. Actual questioning of jurors will begin on August 15 and will last for a couple of weeks.

Thom Mrozek, Public Affairs Officer for the United States Attorney´s Office in Los Angeles, says he anticipates opening statements will take place sometime around Labor Day.
