Sacramento, CA — A federal judge´s prison watchdog accuses Governor Schwarzenegger of dropping prison reform efforts and prompting the resignations of two corrections secretaries in quick succession this year.
Special Master John Hagar says the state´s investigations of inmate abuse and neglect improved when Schwarzenegger first took office.
But Schwarzenegger´s corrections chief abruptly quit in February saying he was frustrated with a lack of support in the administration and with the continued powerful role played by the California Correctional Peace Officers Association. His replacement is retiring for similar reasons.
A union spokesman calls the allegations “baseless and shocking.”
