Democrats Want Immediate Workers Compensation Changes
Sacramento, CA — Democratic lawmakers and labor representatives are urging the Schwarzenegger administration to make quick changes in regulations that a state study says have cut benefits for permanently disabled workers by more than 50 percent.
But the governor´s workers´ compensation director says she needs updated information about the regulations´ impact on workers´ wages before considering amendments.
Carrie Nevans has told the Senate Labor and Industrial Relations Committee that her office wants to do the right thing at the right time for the right reason. The Wednesday hearing focused on regulations drafted to implement part of a sweeping workers´ compensation system overhaul pushed through the Legislature by the governor in 2004 to try to ease skyrocketing insurance costs faced by employers.
