Beverly Hills, CA — Governor Schwarzenegger and the state Republican Party collected an estimated $2.5 million Monday evening at a Beverly Hills fund-raiser while scores of union members protested outside calling for the governor´s ouster.
At one point about two dozen members of the California Nurses Association tried to march into the reception shouting, “Shame on Arnold,” but they were turned away by security guards and police.
The closed-door event was held in an effort to replenish the governor´s political fund that was drained by his campaign and last year´s ballot proposals. Top donors at the event kicked in as much as $100,000.
The event was headlined by Senator John McCain, even though the Arizona Republican has urged Schwarzenegger to push for campaign finance reforms in California.
