City vs. County – Fire Chief Controversy Squashed
San Andreas, CA — A previously heated issue between the City of Angels and Calaveras County is now moot, county officials say.
Angels Camp officials have been trying to appoint their Fire Chief Scott Kenley to serve on the recently formed Emergency Medical Services Oversight Committee.
The committee is advisory to the Mountain Valley Emergency Medical Services Agency, which provides emergency service to Calaveras, Alpine, Amador, Mariposa and Stanislaus counties.
The county refused to let Kenley serve citing a conflict of interest. It said fire districts could become emergency medical service providers.
County Administrative Officer Tom Mitchell told supervisors Monday, now that an exclusive operating contract has been awarded to one provider, there is no conflict.
The board passed a motion appointing Kenley.
The committee is set to discuss the matter Friday.
