California Bond Deadline Nears
Sacramento — Local governments, environmentalists, business groups, even Indian tribes, are lobbying for a share of what could be the biggest bond measure in California history.
Governor Schwarzenegger and legislative leaders are negotiating a package of public works bonds that could help pay for projects ranging from highway expansions to new parks.
Friday is the deadline for lawmakers to put bond measures on the June ballot, and various interest groups are weighing in, hoping to secure a share of the money.
Those groups include the California Infrastructure Coalition, which includes local governments and construction industry companies.
