State Bond Deadline May Be Extended

Sacramento, CA — Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez says there´s some flexibility in Friday´s deadline to place public works bonds on the June ballot.

But he says Governor Schwarzenegger needs to round up Republican support to put a bond deal together. The governor and legislative leaders have been trying to reach agreement on a package of bond measures to help pay for highways, transit, levee upgrades, new schools and other infrastructure improvements.

Secretary of State Bruce Mc-Pherson says Friday is the cutoff date to put bond proposals on the June 6th ballot, but Nunez suggests the secretary would stretch that deadline as much as five or six days if Schwarzenegger requested.
