State Officials Say Population Tops 37 Million

Sacramento, CA — Demographers say California´s population has topped 37 million, but is growing at a slower rate than in past years.

The Department of Finance´s demographics unit said the nation´s most populous state added 498,387 residents in the 12-month period that ended July 1, 2005.

That´s an increase of 1.37 percent that left it with more than 37 million people.

Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Orange counties had the largest numerical increases in population, with Los Angeles gaining more than 92,000 residents in the period studied by demographers.
