FAA Officials Investigating Fatal Plane Crash In Oakdale
Oakdale, CA — Two men are dead following a plane crash in Oakdale yesterday.
The Stanislaus County Sheriff´s Department says the two-seat airplane went down in an orchard at 3:20pm.
Preliminary investigations suggest the pilot lost control of the plane over an almond orchard on Sierra Road near the Oakdale Airport.
Published reports say the victims are 65-year-old Chuck Billington, who was the former Modesto Irrigation District Chairman and 61-year-old Dave Mesenhimer, the Modesto Flight Center co-owner.
Detectives say it is not clear whether the plane was landing at Oakdale Airport or taking off. Federal Aviation Administration officials have taken over the investigation.
