Sacramento, CA — The California Highway Patrol says two thirds of children ages six and under, who were killed in California traffic collisions, were not properly secured in a child safety seat.
That disturbing fact has led to the CHP obtaining a federal grant to address the problem. The $1.7 million federal grant obtained from the Office of Traffic Safety will provide the CHP with the means to strengthen its enforcement efforts throughout the state with a combination of “how-to” presentations and “hands-on” events.
The grant will fund at least 300 safety presentations and five checkup events statewide. In addition, at least 7,000 safety seats will be distributed by CHP Area Office Child Safety Seat Fitting Stations to parents whose seats don´t measure up to current safety standards.
