Welcomed e-mail Received By Tuolumne County Supervisor Dick Pland

Sonora, CA — At 10:45 this morning Fifth District Supervisor Dick Pland received an e-mail stating that House Bill 3058 (the Secure Rules and Community Self Determination Act) would be marked up Wednesday, September 26 in Washington, D.C.

That means the legislation will move out of committee and onto the House of Representatives floor. Pland noted that the legislation was “going nowhere while it stayed in committee.”

Pland added that the Senate has its own version of the bill. He stated that he is hopeful the legislation can reach President Bush´s desk by the end-of-the-year deadline.

The Secure Rules and Community Self Determination Act would enrich the county´s coffers to the tune of $2.5 million per year over a five year period. $1 million would go to schools ($178,000 to Sonora High School), $1 million to roads and $500,000 to the Resource Advisory Committee.
