Arnold, CA– Ignition of the Irish O´Manuel Under Burn in the Calaveras Ranger District is set to commence on Monday, January 29.
Stanislaus National Forest Officials say the controlled burn, which will be located nearly one mile west of Arnold, along Forest Road 5N49, is expected to last 10 days.
If weather permits, officials plan to burn a total of 289 acres with low- intensity fire to protect public investment in conifer tree plantations, protect watersheds, OHV trails, and other forest resources.
They also hope to reduce natural vegetation and re-introduce fire into the ecosystem. Officials say smoke may be visible from Highway 4 and that all burning is monitored and conducted in accordance with state and county air quality guidelines and closely coordinated with local county air quality control districts.
