Sonora, CA — With colder weather in the forecast, the American Red Cross is urging Mother Lode residents to use caution over the coming days.
District Coordinator Carole Mutzner says you should keep a battery operated radio on hand to keep informed during power outages, should they occur. She also advises that you stay tuned to local media for updates on winter storm watches.
The final piece of advice is to develop a family disaster plan. Mutzner says you should ask questions such as do you know how to get in touch with each other at all times, and do you have enough food for a few days if you are unable to leave the house.
The National Weather Service has issued a freeze watch for the Mother Lode from Friday evening through Saturday morning. People venturing outside should dress warmly, and pets should have a warm place to take shelter. The prolonged period of freezing temperatures may also freeze pipes, so the weather service is urging residents to take protective measures.
