Columbia, CA — Whenever the unemployment rate jumps, community colleges typically see an increase in enrollment.
?Columbia College´s growth has increased about 9% from last fall,? says Dr. Joan Smith, Columbia President. ?If unemployment goes up, we´ll probably have another increase in our growth.?
Smith says that this poses a challenge for Columbia given the current California budget crisis, ?With that 9% increase in enrollment, the state is only reimbursing us for a 2% growth. The community colleges are being asked to do more with less.?
Smith will be the guest on this weekend´s Mother Lode Views to further discuss this and many additional topics involving Columbia College.
Mother Lode Views can be heard on AM-1450 KVML Saturday morning at 9:30 and Sunday morning at 8:30. Mother Lode Views can also be heard on STAR 92.7 Sunday morning at nine and then a short hour later on Today´s Country 93.5 KKBN.
Tuesday of next week Mother Lode Views will be available on MyMotherLode.com under the heading of Live Audio Streams on the right hand side of the home page.
