Gov Schwarznegger Delivers Holiday Message
Governor Schwarzenegger was KVML´s Tuesday morning Newsmaker:
“Hello, this is Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger with another California Report.
This is of course a time, as Californians and as Americans, to stop and appreciate all that we have.
With Family. Friends. Food. Laughter. Living in the most beautiful state in the country, and in the greatest country in the world.
The simple, positive act of giving thanks creates ripples of change, even in the hardest of times.
I know because that is my story.
Thanksgiving will always be one of my favorite moments of the year because I arrived in America right before the holiday that I had only read about in books. I knew very little about it.
I had nothing at that time, I remember. No home. No furnishings. I had no money. I only had a gym bag full of sweaty clothes. That´s it. But America welcomed me.
I had my first Thanksgiving dinner at a new friend´s house. I remember so well, when I was working out in the gym that afternoon, I didn´t know much about Thanksgiving. But he came to me and he said ?Look, I don´t want you to be alone. I want you to have dinner at my family´s house.?
And I went there, accepted and I had the most wonderful time.
I felt the warmth of his family. I ate a huge amount of food and they explained to me then, thoroughly, on what Thanksgiving was all about. And I loved their story.
I will never forget how I was included in their family.
As Californians, we have so much to be thankful for.
For instance, the homes that were saved by the bravery of our firefighters who are the best in the world.
Or our successes in fighting against global warming, which are an example to the nation and to the world.
Or the courage of the men and women from throughout our state who are serving in other countries to protect our freedom and safety during the time of war.
The resiliency of our people and our powerhouse economy, even in these difficult economic times.
We sit at a table of plenty in this great state of California. Everything may be sliced a little thinner right now, but we will feast all year on the many blessings that surround us.
I think there are also a lot of people out there that do not have enough food. Or maybe have no food and no money.
And this is why it was so wonderful the other day, when the Mayor-Elect Kevin Johnson of Sacramento and I went to a place that´s called the GreenHouse, where they were handing out food. And we were helping them package the bread, potatoes and canned foods, fruits and vegetables and turkey and all of those kinds of things.
We put them all in a basket and then people would go and drive them to various different homes, so those that don´t have enough money for food, will also have food.
So this is kind of what is so great about this state and this country. Because places like this exist all over the state and this nation.
You know, it´s all about sharing. That´s what Thanksgiving is all about.
So I just want to say Maria and I wish all of you happy holidays.
Thank you very much for listening.”
The Newsmaker of the Day can be heard each weekday morning at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47 on AM-1450 KVML.
