Governor Schwarzenegger Discusses State Bonds
Governor Schwarzenegger was KVML radio´s Tuesday morning Newsmaker.
Here are his words:
“Hi, this is Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger with another California Report.
Those of us lucky enough to call California home know that our state is a tremendous asset that belongs to all of us.
From its coastal cities and beautiful beaches to its towering redwoods and gorgeous mountains, the Golden State is our treasure.
In a few days the state will sell $4 billion of short-term notes.
We do this every year to pay for schools, health care and other very important services because tax collections come in at uneven intervals.
Your investment will help protect vital state services.
As California residents you have a special opportunity to buy these notes in an early order period on October 14th and 15th.
And, they´re tax exempt.
The state will pay your principal and interest, in full, next June.
And you won´t have to pay an upfront sales commission on the notes you purchase during this period.
As the California Treasurer´s Office points out, these are good, safe investments for California families.
I know this is a tough economic time we are going through right now but I have no doubt that the economy of our state and nation will get through this and come out strong.
I´ve been very encouraged by the excellent steps taken by the U.S. Treasury, the Federal Reserve and the FDIC to restore health to our financial system.
These steps will take time, but they will work.
So help keep California great.
Invest in our Golden State.
