Sacramento, CA — Governor Schwarzenegger signed SB 1455 into law Wednesday which will allow families of fallen military personnel the right to display Gold Star license plates on their vehicles.
The bill was co-authored by Senate Republican Leader Dave Cogdill of Modesto who commented, “We are excited and very happy that the Governor signed this bill. It is only appropriate that we in our own small way try to show appreciation for those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy in this country.”
Cogdill added that the cost of the license plates will be handled through private fundraising. There will be no cost to California taxpayers. SB 1455 will go into effect January 1, 2009. 22 other states have similar programs.
Governor Schwarzenegger commented, “Many times in the movies I have played an action hero but the brave men and women in uniform are the true action heroes and that is why I am so pleased to sign this bill.”
