Berryhill’s Metal Theft Bill Clears Assembly

Sacramento, Ca — Assemblyman Tom Berryhill´s AB 844 which seeks to disrupt the pattern of quick cash for metal thieves has passed its final legislative hurdle, and now awaits the Governor´s approval.

AB 844 would require recyclers to hold payment for three days, and take a picture of the items being sold. The buyer must also take a photo of the seller and get a thumbprint.

?This day has been a long time coming,? says Berryhill. ?Since this bill was first introduced in February of 2007, it has been a fight. A lot of folks have worked long and hard on this bill and I am extremely happy the hard work of so many has finally paid off.?

The one hurdle that the bill now faces is that Governor Schwarzenegger has stated that no new legislation will be signed into law until a budget is on his desk.
