Jamestown, Ca — If Governor Schwarzenegger´s recommendation is approved, Railtown 1897 in Jamestown will be closed due to lack of state funding.
The California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento is hoping to convince legislators that this is the wrong decision.
“It is not a done deal,” says Executive Director Pamela Horan. “Railtown is very important to Tuolumne County, and we recognize that. We´re going to do everything we can to keep Railtown open.”
Horan says the details have not been worked out, but there will be a campaign organized to keep Railtown open and operational.
“We just don´t think that the proposal has much merit,” adds Horan. “The savings is minimal compared to the overall impact to people of California being able to visit the park.”
Railtown 1897 is one of 47 state parks that the Governor is recommending be closed. The action would have to be approved by both houses of the California Legislature.
